Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo |
"In the early 50s I was the only one that was given two scholarships simultaneously under the influence of Obafemi Awolowo. They asked me which of the two would I take, that is, a Ph.D career in Mathematics or Engineering. To the shock of everyone I decided to go for the two. That's how I became a Mathematician and an Engineer. So I am very grateful to Chief Awolowo for that opportunity. And I was not a member of the Action Group."
Dr. Olunloyo remains one of the youngest Nigerians ever to hold a cabinet position. He was appointed Commissioner for Economic Development for the Western Region in 1962 at the age of 27!

Enter your comment...I think the story of our famous Dr. Omololu Olunloyo should teach our politicians and leaders a great lesson, if they want to learn. How often as our leaders remember the young ones of the likes, Dr Omololu Olunloyo to have any say in the governance of this country? Remember you to cry everyday that Youths are the leaders of tomorrow. Truly?

ReplyDeleteOne would have expected that with the privilege offered by Chief Awolowo, the young gentleman (then) would not antagonise the legend, but he opposed his party (UPN) and ideologies at the 1983 election. Everyone with his own different perspectives!
