Chief Richard Akinjide and Dr. Mudiaga Odje, Lead Counsel to Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the case filed by Chief Obafemi Awolowo against FEDECO and Alhaji Sheu Shagari following the Presidential Elections in 1979. They  were supported by 8 other lawyers.  

Mr. G. O. K. Ajayi was the Lead Counsel for  Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He appeared with 24 other lawyers.

Prof Ayodele Awojobi of University of Lagos submitted 'mathematical canon of interpretation' in his support of Awolowo.

The Chief Justice, Fatayi-Williams, and five other Justices, in agreeing with FEDECO held that it was fallacious to talk of fractionalization of the physical land area of a state and concluded that the election of Alhaji Shehu Shagari was conducted in accordance with the Electoral Decree.

The one judge who dissented was Mr. Justice Kayode Eso.
