Ben Nwabueze - An African Pacesetter

Professor Ben Nwabueze is one of the brightest legal scholars Nigeria has ever produced. He is a trailblazer and a pacesetter. He was the first non-practising lawyer to be elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. His elevation was based purely on the recognition of the intellectual excellence of his published works.

He was the second African to be awarded higher doctorate degree in Law, LL.D by published works by the University of London. This is not to be confused with honourary degree in Law (honoris causa).

The University of London was so impressed with the quality of Prof. Nwabueze’s published works that he was not required, as the practice is, to appear before the Senate of the institution to defend his works submitted for the degree.

Prof. Taslim Olawale Elias was the first African to have obtained the Degree by published works.

As of 2012, the prolific author has authored a total of 30 full-length books and treaties on various aspects of law and political science. Each of his publication has an average page extent of 400 pages and they were published reputable publishers in Europe and Nigeria. Prof Nwabueze has also authored over 100 keynote addresses, public lectures and lead papers at local and international conferences.
